Publisher's Synopsis

Public Body completes the trilogy dedicated to the work of performance artist Marina Abramovic, and comes after the acclaimed titles Performing Body and Artist Body. It presents Transitory Objects for Human and Non Human Use, in which she built a series of transitory objects with the aim of having active audience participation. The idea occurred while Abramovic was walking the Great Wall of China; she realised it was the first time she was doing a performance where the audience was not present. To transmit this experience she constructed a series of objects 'for human use', 'spiritual use' and 'use of power' (made of iron, wood, minerals, pig blood and human hair). The artist does not consider these works as sculptures but as transitory objects that trigger public experiences through direct interaction. This final volume includes a passionate essay by Abramovic on her reflections of public performance and her trips to China, India, Japan and Brazil.
